give your bathroom style and more room witha pedestal sink. before you start, check the installation instructionsfor support, and plumbing requirements. keep in mind you might need to reroute plumbing. to remove your old vanity, turn off the watersupply and turn on the faucet to relieve pressure in the lines.loosen the nuts to remove the drain pipes, and disconnect the water lines from the valves.cut the sealant along the backsplash and remove. if your vanity is secured to the wall, separatethe top from the vanity with a putty knife, lift it off and back out the screws.the vanity should now pull out. with the old vanity out you can make plumbingrepairs – such as moving the supply lines


and drain. consider installing new plumbingsince it will be visible. some pedestal sinks require a support boardbehind the finished wall for extra strength. to install, mark the sink height on the wall,cut out part of the wallboard and studs, and install the support board with screws. thenrepair the wall surface. this is an ideal time to paint, install walltile or new flooring. to install the new pedestal sink, mark thecenterline on the wall and floor. then make a mark 10 inches from the wall-- accountingfor the baseboard. position the pedestal on the mark, and set the sink tight against thewall, check for level and adjust the pedestal as needed.


mark the sink’s anchor holes on the walland the pedestal hole on the floor. move the sink and pedestal aside, and drill the threeholes. next, install hanger bolts in the wall – leavingabout 1 inch extending from the wall. secure the pedestal to the floor with a lagbolt and washer. don’t over tighten. attach your faucet and drain before settingthe sink bowl in place. now position it over the hanger bolts, levelit, and secure it with cap nuts and washers. again, don’t over tighten. reconnect the drain and water supply, andcheck for leaks. consider adding a new mirror and lightingfixture to match the look of your new sink.
