BATHROOM REMODEL VALUE ADDED

we're moving up to the ceilings now and thisis one part of a renovation that is often overlooked and that is ceiling height. you can see right here we have our ceilingjoists and they are dropped. a lot of older homes with a flat you may seea dropped ceiling it is not a part of the structure so are allowed to go ahead and takethem out. these are really just holding up the drywall. so what we are going to do is take these outand why is quite simply a matter of inches. our rafters are six inches so that means weare going to be gaining 10 inches of ceiling height and i know that doesn't seem like muchbut in a small space like this those extra

10 inches are going to matter. now an important consideration is always yourventilation when dealing drop ceilings. before there was a cold zone in behind theinsulation. we are going to get around that by doing atwo pound closed sell spray foam. so we will get maximum r-value and maximumceiling height. let's show you how to do it. alright, now that the ceiling joists are cuttime to just rip them out. and a good old twist. there we go, nail is out.

daru muscle will do it. that means it is easy. there we go. two and three. that's how you do it. ha, ha, that's the sound of old lumber. my bones, my bones. oh, that's ancient. well aged wood, seasoned.

alright, we are moving on to the second halfof the room the ceiling looks great! so ryan how are we going to tackle this? well we got our existing ceiling joists herewe're going to cut it in the middle, pull down each side and that way it's safer, nothingdrops and there won't be any issues. ryan you want to explain why you are cuttingit on an angle instead of cutting it straight across? instead of a 90 degree cut which would putno pressure against the opposing joist i cut them on an angle that way they wedge themselvestogether and i can control them until i decide to take them down.

that is a really good because if you are doingthis by yourself at home and you just do straight cuts and this is good for all demo work becauseif you just do a straight cut it's going to fall down and you don't really have any control. this way you can control the removal. that's a beauty! look at that. you know what i find? it's the simplest thing on a job site thatmakes all the difference. nice angle cut ryan.

nice, love it! good job ryan.
