BATHROOM REMODEL UTICA NY

BATHROOM REMODEL UTICA NY

now it's timeto get to work. i'm gonna toss it to my co-host, andrewdan-jumbo, operation build's top construction expert. (voiceover) thanks laura. one of the main issues scott has at home istaking a shower. with his limited mobility it's difficultfor him to get in and out of this old relic in their masterbathroom. so we're very excited plus a day on operation build wehave marty rasmussen and he is the president of re-bath, andthis is a company that's gonna help us do some magic in scott'sbathroom. marty, welcome. thank

you for having me. re-bath, whatexactly is it that you do? well, re-bath has been in the bathroomremodeling business since 1979. in fact, we've remodeled over amillion bathrooms and counting. wow. we have 125 locationsacross the country and we're just pleased to be a part ofthis project. so, re-bath has a technology, it comes in and youdo gut an existing bathroom or is it you go over existingsurfaces? how does that work? it's a good question andrew. weactually don't cover up anything. we are, what we call,a remove and replace bathroom

company. and so what we do is weremove everything and we'll tear everything out right down to thestuds and the subfloor to make sure that we can inspect theentire bathroom and then we'll put in all the materials fromthe very beginning of the project all the way to the end.and we make sure that everything meets local building codes. so,this is in effect a full bath and remodel right down to thestuds but it's done in a more timely fashion. so you can cutdown on the normal time by - what would you say? well, ourtypical project is just 3 to 5

days. that's it? that's it. mostcontractors take anywhere from 3 weeks to 5 weeks to do the sameamount of work. so obviously, scott received some seriousinjuries when he was fighting in the iraq war. i know he has somemobility issues so what exactly are you gonna do to addressthose issues and susie's needs in the bathroom? that's a goodquestion. so, there's a couple of things that we're reallyfocused on for scott. one is we're gonna make sure that wehave the universal height toilet. that's gonna be easierfor him to be able to use. in

the shower area, what we'regonna do, is we're gonna be installing an 18 inch wide benchthat he's gonna be able to use whether to set his foot on tostabilize himself, or even to sit down. but, in addition tothat, we have 8 different grab bars that we're gonna beinstalling in different places throughout the shower andoutside the bathroom area. and they're beautiful pieces of artreally, and in fact, instead of those institutional-looking grabbars that you see in a lot of hospitals and even older homestoday. these are gorgeous

pieces. in fact, most peoplenever even know that they're there for safety. so marty, itlooks like you guys are off to a great start. i can see they gota little work done already in there. is this one of the fullsheets of the product? this is actually most of a sheet. thisis about two-thirds of the sheet of the natural stone product.yeh. and this is actually a natural stone? it is - it's realstone. it's cut this thin? it''s 3/16 of an inch thick and thenit's laminated with recycled aluminum and a plastic polymer.this is right here. this is it.

(music) so marty, tell me aboutthis thing. it's a serious weapon. so, this is a specialcaulking machine that we use to make sure that we put down theright amount of adhesive on the walls prior to actuallyinstalling the stone products. so this is what's used to gluethis to the wall? it is, yeh. and, it's specially formulatedadhesive that we actually developed in conjunction with achemical company many years ago that we use for this product andother products that we manufacture. so what's gone onhere so far? you came in, you

stripped out the old - was itfiberglass, the base here? yeh, there used to be a 4 footfiberglass shower stall right where you're standing. and thenoff to your right was a built-in linen closet. so we came in,tore all of that out, stripped everything down to the studs andthe subfloor. we installed new sheetrock. so reframed in forthe sheetrock. reframed new sheetrock. we installed newlighting, a special led vapor-proof lighting. these arethe waterproof fixtures? they are, to make sure that it's niceand bright for scott when he's

in here. and, you've come a longway, you've got a lot done. i see you've got some of theshower control valve in place. yep. so it's fairly easy to cut?i mean if you have the right tools. it is. in fact, like weactually are able to do all the fabrication right here onsite inthe customer's home or in their garage or their driveway, tomake sure that we can do all the special cuts. whether it be forthe mosaic tile that we've been putting in here. and certainlythe special round holes for the lighting itself. yeh, well imean although you're not

finished yet, i can get a senseof how this space is going to be. it feels very opulent, likea lot more upscale with this stone finish. i can't imaginesusie's gonna be unhappy with this. it's absolutely beautiful.we hope she's gonna love it. and you're gonna bring this mosaicdetail right the way thru? all the way thru. from the cornerover here all the way into the shower area and then outside tothe wall here. amazing amazing. well, when you're done here ihave a house you can work on. that would be mine. we'd loveto. i'm not gonna hold you up to

it. i'm gonna go this way.sounds good.
