here i want to put a tile i already spread the thin-set and this is the and this is the tile i am going to put here as you can see i also spread thin set .. what called back buttering the tile here i want to show you how it looks like if you look at it from close proximity
so as you can see there is no space between the tile and the wall which is a cement block in this curb this tile and this tile and this tile already being installed what i want to install today is
this 5 tiles setting on the top of the curb they are not installed yet, they are only cut and i want to show you what i am actually doing here because .. to install tile on a curb it is not simple and you need to be very accurate so i want to show you the process i am going throgh before i am installing it what i did in order to make it work
the first thing i do, i actually cut these five tiles the same size (width) so i am going to check if it flat here you can see very soon i am going to show from close distance how flat it is and here it also have to be flat
let me show you from close distance how flat and level this tiles are. if i am going to put the level here you can see how flat these tiles ok . if i am going to take a measurement a measure tap here
it should be exactly 6 and 1/4 (inches) any place you go. any place you go it will be 6 and 1/4 inches. now in order to be successful when you are installing (tiles) on a curb is that the curb is a rectangular but is actually almost perfect rectangular which means the width of the curb should be the same
a long the curb it is not the same and it is not flat we are going to have a very big difficult to install it properly. and it is not going to look nice. that is the first thing that you do. before i am going to install it i just going to talk about this trim here i put a trim or a threshold in order to cover the in-perfection of
the cutting of the tiles and this this corner here as you can see here let me show you, here there is a corner this bench is actually going together with this curb so here i need to set another (trim) another threshold here.
it is going to sit perfectly with the other threshold. this is another angle to look at the issue and the complexity of a so this curb is meeting here the bench the sit and what i intend to do is. i intend to put here another threshold , just take this tile out
and put it here as i show you before, this is very complected and you really need to be very careful when you doing step by step. other issue i want to talk about is the slope any curb in the shower has to have a slope toward the shower. the slope should be at least a 1/4" of an inch per foot
i already designed and i already built when i constructed or when i built it i already built it with a slope, so i just want to show you the slope here so if i am going to look at it from here just to see the slope so you can see i have to actually quite elevate it (the level) and you can see here the bubble (in the level) ok so this slope is all over(the curb). if i am going
here i will have the same slope. i really built the curb with the slope it is better to do it like that and not to create the slope after you build the curb because if you will play with the thin set and tiles it is not going to be efficient because water will penetrate to the
this-set and will stay on the curb top and that will create mold and mildew so you really need ..you must build the curb with the slope, which is the 1/4 " per one foot. ok i am here from the inside of the shower
i want to show you the curb how it looks from the inside shower so the curb is like that you can see it and what i want to talk about i want to talk about the tile here, you see here that is what i want to talk about. if you look at this tile, ok. i can take it out and.. you can see i did not install it yet because that going to be the next thing to install
and .. what i want to talk about is how i designed it if you look at it here i can move it all over you can see how nice its look actually exactlly so the water will come from here and it will fail down to this area. now
if you look at this tile here the width of this tile its really the width of the curb plus the thickness of this tile which is a 1/4 of an inch all the tiles here have the same size
and the curb, i make sure that the curb width it is exactly all over so its i corrected here when it was not exactly, like a 1/4 of an inch that is very important so lets start installing the top curb what i am doing here i am just protecting the tiles here you can see the tiles here (on the side of the curb)
i am protecting them the thin-set will not go over these tiles here. that's it cleaning the dust first. i am going to start from here i am first going to put the two tiles 45 degrees i want to show you from close proximity how
(the thin-set) looks after you make (with the trowel) 45 degrees that the way it should look must look like parallel line of thin set back butter is a must. that is the way it looks like before it is going to be on (the curb) i am going to put it( (on the curb) remember the cutting is here where the trim
or the threshold going to be. i am putting it next to each other. and now i am going to move it little bit pressure not a lot i put the two of them now i am going to put the next two (tiles) i need to put more (thin-set) here you really want to put (quite a bit of thin-set) and then flat it first with (the trowel) 30 degrees that guarantee that the thin set will
spraed properly and evenly n the concrete here now 45 degrees (with the trowel) if you can come here close you can see how level it is you can see how level it is. flat horizontal now i am going to put the spacers
what i want to make sure that it is exactly line with this space here, just to make it sure i can take this spacer and put it here you can see it it sit exactly now you see that it exactly line i can take even this (utility tool) just to make sure yap
to make sure its line, so everything is good ok so now what i am going to do i am going to put the trim inside first i am going to put thin-set here i put too much i ave to remove it (the thin-set access) its look good now and i can remove this piece now i want to take the trim
as you can see here this trim and put it , insert it inside the tiles here so you probably see my back but i want you to see me you see this is the corner here i make sure that it is the right place to put it and now i have to push it in and i know exactly where it should go because i have another piece of threshold here and i have to put it here
i know exactly where it should be and this should be here. that is excellent. ok after i put it (the threshold) i can add a little bit of thin-set on it. you see just add another thin-set on it
forcing (the thin-set) inside the threshold back and here also and do not worry that is enough quite a lot of thin set to hold it (the threshold) to its position for ever and here you can see how it looks like here before i am going to put it (the tile)
so now i am going to put it here i have to give it the right elevation it looks good i put more thin-set (on tile) because i can not put here (on the curb) so i put here (on the back of the tile)you can see it let see how it will go i just clean it with a sponge ok so now i have to put it in a reference with the other (tiles)
it is almost finish now what we have to do we have to flat all of them (the tiles) together on the same page and make sure that the trim here (in the right corner) its exactly we are going to force it with something because the trims they are flexible to move a little bit any way we actually completed to install
(the tiles) on the top (of the curb) lets clean this and make sure everything is level here remember it must be flat if it not going to be flat it will be felt by the person who going over it (the curb) you can see. he can sens it. so it is very important that it will extremely flat
ok, we finish it. now i am going to take this tile that i use before just to make sure that everything is properly done. its perfect... if you come fro inside i will show you i am taking this tile now and i put it here what i want to see is that it (fits) exactly here. i can move it here
it is the same all over that's it. the next tile to install, is to install this tile and the (shower) floor. that it just want to see if we maintain the slope we have to maintain the slope because the curb built with a slope let see, if i put (the level) here you will see
and look here on the bubble you can see i have to elevate it so if you look from this angel you can see wht i have to do. so we have a slope. if you go here the same issue. we have the slope all over here so that is very good. if you can see what i put here, i put here two blocks just to force the threshold or the
trim in. also here o.k i put them just to in-force it (the trim) going to be strait because this trim you know tends to move out if you don't put pressure on it. we back after 12 hours here just to see if everything is good
ok so i just put here the level. it excellent it is very level (flat) and i put it here, the level excellent so i want to show you from close distance, i can walk on it now no problem so before we continue to install the rest of this curb just want to show you couple of things. first if you look here
you see that (there is) evenly distance between the trim or the threshold to the tiles you can see how level this tiles here if i take a level and put it here i want you to see the result and to the other direction which is here you can see how
flat strait this in addition to it i want to see if we maintain and you can see i have to elevate it a little bit if i go here the same thing i have to elevate it
so here same thing so we have a slope all over and let see how flat now i am going to check how flat it is just put the level here just to show you how flat is
