hi, i’m tara with the hobby lobby creativestudio! maybe you’ve been searching for that perfectpiece to go over your mantel. or maybe it’s just time to change out thedecor you already have. either way, you’re going to love today’sproject: a customizable wood sign. you’ll start with a wood plaque and addwood appliques. i’m using gel super glue to adhere mine. once they’re set, paint on a thin layerof chalky-finish paint and let it dry. and now for the customizing part. stencils and hand lettering are a couple ofmy favorite looks.
they’re quick and easy but still let youget as creative as you want. when the paint is dry, lightly sand the plaqueto give it a nice worn look and to bring out the wood grain underneath. now let’s add the finishing touches. i’m going with a decorative tack on eachapplique. you’ll find several different styles inthe crafts department. and instead of attaching hanging hardwareto the back, i’m going to give the front a little more decoration with bronze-platedhandles. just hammer them right onto the plaque……and slip some ribbon through for hanging.
glue to secure, and it’s ready to display. i attached mine to a pre-made wreath, butyou could also leave it just like it is. it’ll look great no matter how you styleit. we have tons of options when it comes to woodembellishments for crafts of all kinds. be sure to browse the aisles and let us knowwhat you’re making!
